JP Toto is the owner of 30Points Design & Consulting, a small (very small) technology consulting firm in Collegeville, PA. 30Points is JP's side project but his full time gig is being the VP of Application Development for Cognis IT, a full service IT consulting and software development firm. JP got his start in the enterprise and spent the better part of his formative years designing intranets for pharmaceutical and financial services companies in the Philadelphia area. In this session, Evan will present alternative approaches to representing hierarchical data within a SQL Server database. The first will be to represent trees as nested sets as found in Joe Celko’s SQL For Smarties book, and the second approach will use the hierarchyID data type in SQL Server 2008.
