Time for NHibernate at Chicago ALT.NET. Hudson Akridge familiarizes us with the Fluent NHibernate project, which aims at simplifying NHibernate's configuration. Hudson's talk was one of the best reviewed in the recent Chicago Code Camp and will no doubt make you happy to leave those XML mapping files behind. Fluent NHibernate is a framework, that sits on top of NHibernate, which helps to cut down on some of the headaches you will indubitably encounter with picking up such a mature ORM. We'll be discussing how FNH can help cut down the learning curve of using NHibernate as an ORM and how it can benefit existing NHibernate production environments long term. Most developers want to see their code go through system testing without error. Having a logic error may be the result of poor requirements. Having a data error is a function of the data. But having your code blow up in the middle of testing is just an embarrassment. When you develop automated tests that are observable, measurable and repeatable you can be pretty sure your code will meet the needs of the application. In this presentation you will learn the basics of using the nUnit testing application incorporated in Visual Studio. These basics include how to develop nUnit test and get the best results from your testing. It will also include the limitations of testing with nUnit and reporting the results. Our speaker is Eric Notheisen. Eric is a Senior Consultant with CGI. He has been working in IT for most of his 42 year career. Prior to joining CGI he was an Applications Developer on contract to the Lash Group. As a software developer, Eric develops Windows and Web applications using a wide variety of programming languages. Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is Microsoft’s strategic technology for building distributed, connected systems. Initially released with .NET 3.0, it has been significantly enhanced in .NET 3.5 to support the various web programming models: SOAP, POX, WS-*, REST and RSS/Atom syndications. In our session, we will talk about: WCF architecture, WCF bindings and configuration, hosting WCF services, WCF security and some design best practices. We will focus on SOAP and REST, but we will see examples of each of the programming models.
